Three Simple Words that Shift Everything

What's Your Core Brand FEELING and Perception?

How do people feel and think when they interact with your business?

Have you thought about how you want them to feel after interactions with you?  Inspired?  Hopeful?  Motivated?

Or what words you’d want them to use to describe you or your business?

Whether it’s intentional or not, how you communicate with your people across all platforms (email, blog, speaking, social media – everything) creates the perception of your brand.

And if you don’t create it intentionally… it will create itself!

You’ve got to know your core brand FEELING and PERCEPTION.

What are the three words you want people to use when they talk about the business brand (and are they the same as the personal brand)?

What words do your community and audience use now?  Consider reaching out to a few clients and colleagues and asking: “What are the first three words that come to mind when you think of your experience working with me?”

If the perception your community has doesn’t line up with the perception you want… have you defined what you want it to be?

You’ve got to know first what that perception is and then how to express it consistently in everything you do/offer!

Questions to Ponder

  • When people interact with the business, I want them to think/feel _____, _____, and _____.
  • When thinking about the business/brand, I don’t want people to think/feel _____, _____, or _____.
  • If the brand was a person, they would be described as _____, _____, and _____.

Choosing Your Brand Words (On Purpose!)

What adjectives would you use to describe your business? Choose 3-5 words (or add your own) that most resonate with you, then narrow down your top 3-5. Why are those your top words?  How do they relate to the perception you want to create for your brand?

If you’re stuck, consider this: list three brands/personalities you admire and write down what specifically you admire.  Then look for what those three have in common.  Are those qualities you want to reflect as well?

Take a few minutes and write down notes for yourself on which words resonate with you and why.

Then begin focusing more intentionally on creating an experience for your community that lines up with your words!

Once you’ve defined them, everything you do can be guided by these core words and values.
